How to Create a New Belief System

Belief systems are the backbone of our lives, and although we often take them for granted, they affect our lives in some way every day. If you want to change your life, changing your belief system can be one of the most important steps to take in order to get what you want out of life. The following article will walk you through the steps needed to create a new belief system that can help you achieve all that you’ve ever wanted.

Let go of the old belief system

Recognize what beliefs you have that keep you stuck and write them down. Reject those old beliefs. For example, if your belief is I’m never going to be good enough, or nothing ever goes my way, then start writing down new beliefs that will empower you. Write some affirmations of how you want things to be in place of those old limiting beliefs. Affirmations are positive statements about yourself and your life. You can write these down or say them aloud every day. Here are some examples: I am a powerful person who attracts amazing opportunities into my life, I am worthy of all good things coming into my life, and I am confident that everything is working out for me for the best possible outcome. You get it—write whatever feels right for you!

Write down your new statements

Write down 10–20 statements that demonstrate your new belief system. As an example, if you’re trying to eliminate negative thoughts, writing things like I’m beautiful just as I am or I accept my flaws and love them anyway would be great starting points. If you need more direction, check out How To Change Your Thoughts And Emotions by clicking here. You can also take it a step further by taking part in activities that reinforce your new beliefs. For example, if you want to change your relationship with food (or anything else), try setting boundaries for yourself or talking about what changes you want to make with someone who will support you along the way. The important thing is consistency: It may seem overwhelming at first, but making small changes every day is one of the best ways to bring about permanent change in yourself.

Visualize yourself as already having it

When you picture yourself having what you want, your mind begins looking for ways to manifest that image. Therefore, one of the most effective steps towards creating a new belief system is visualizing what it will look like when it’s already yours. One of my favourite visualization tools is Law of Attraction Software Visualization (LASV) software, which I talk about in Chapter 6. It allows me to see myself living in abundance and prosperity day by day. There are other great visualization tools out there as well. You can start with free resources such as Insight Timer or Headspace, or if you have more money than time, take a class with an expert who can help you visualize effectively. The important thing is to regularly spend time envisioning what life will be like once your goal has been achieved so that you can focus on how good it feels on both a conscious and subconscious level. The law of attraction states: Like attracts like. What we think we become!

Change Your Habits

As easy as it is to say that you have bad habits, changing them isn’t always easy. It takes time and practice before your new habits become your go-to actions. However, if you truly want to change your life for the better, you’re going to have to break some bad habits and form new ones. The first step is identifying what those bad habits are; we’ve created an infographic of common negative habits to help you get started. Once you know what needs fixing, create a plan to replace those old behaviours with new ones. Here are some tips: Set small goals for yourself—it will be easier to keep up with these small changes than with larger ones. Also, try creating an accountability system so that others can help hold you accountable when temptation strikes or when things get hard (more on accountability below). Finally, don’t forget to reward yourself! Every time you reach a goal or stick to your plan, treat yourself in some way. Rewarding yourself helps ensure that you stay motivated over the long haul.

Say It Out Loud

Believing something and saying it out loud makes you more likely to stick with it. For example, if your goal is to spend more time with your kids each day, say I love spending time with my kids out loud several times throughout your day. The key is repetition—but don’t force it! If you find yourself repeating it without feeling it, try coming up with an affirmation that feels right for you. If spending more time with your kids doesn’t come naturally, maybe affirmations like I am a great parent or I am raising happy children will be better for you.
