Setting goals at the beginning of the year, whether personal or professional, can seem like an intimidating task if you’ve never done it before. But there are plenty of tools and tricks that you can use to make sure that your goals are not only set but also achieved by December 31st! Here are five of my favorites
Define what you want
1) Write down what you want.
2) Come up with the steps you need to take in order to achieve it.
3) Divide your steps into short-term, medium-term, and long-term objectives.
4) Assign deadlines for each step.
5) Create a timeline that will help you stay on track as you work towards your goal. Put all of this information in a binder or on your computer so you have easy access to it at all times.
6) Get excited about your goal!
Keep reminding yourself why this is important and what good can come from achieving this objective.
Set realistic milestones
1. Commit to your goal. Make sure it’s something you really want or need in your life, not just something you think would be nice if it happened.
2. Be specific about what you want and how you’ll know when you’ve achieved it. For example, I will earn $10,000 more than I did last year by increasing sales by 5%.
3. Write down the reasons why this is important to you on paper and review them daily.
4. Identify obstacles that might stand in the way of achieving this goal and find solutions to overcome these obstacles so they won’t get in your way.
5. Find a support system that can help you achieve this goal, whether it’s friends or family who have already been there before or people with similar interests who can offer advice and encouragement along the way.
Stay focused – as much as possible – on accomplishing this one thing in order to avoid distractions.
Make a plan
Before you can accomplish anything, it’s important to create realistic goals. As professional creatives, it’s easy to get caught up in setting impossible benchmarks that are based more on our imagination than anything else. There is nothing wrong with having lofty aspirations, but you need to be honest about whether or not your timeline aligns with those expectations. It takes time to build the skillset necessary for success, so don’t feel discouraged if you can’t hit all of your targets overnight.
Some people start by asking themselves what they want their life to look like five years from now. What are some of the things that make this future life look possible? How much money do they have saved? What kind of car do they drive? Do they have family around them? What do they do with their free time outside of work hours?
Set deadlines
-What are your resolutions?
-Create a vision statement -Choose goals that align with your vision statement -Write down your goal(s) on paper or in the notes section of your phone -Find someone who will hold you accountable -Write out how you’ll achieve your goal(s) (step by step) -Break up the steps into monthly chunks so you can create manageable monthly goals
-When you start feeling discouraged, remember this is about progress, not perfection. There’s no such thing as failure. Every time we try something we’re making progress. Remember what Socrates said, The unexamined life is not worth living.
Write down your plan! Figure out the steps! Keep moving forward!
Hold yourself accountable
In order to set goals, it is important to be accountable. If you have someone who will hold you accountable (a partner, friend, or family member), this can help you stay motivated when things get tough. There are many ways in which people can hold themselves accountable such as making public announcements about their goals, posting updates on social media, or writing down their progress. So what are your goals for 2023?

Celebrate your successes
This is one of my favorite things about the new year. I have plenty of time to reflect on what went well this past year and think about what I want for myself in the coming year. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
Below are some of my best tips for setting your own personal goals, no matter how small. You don’t need to be ambitious or make grand resolutions if that’s not who you are. Just do something! Goals can be short-term, long-term, simple, or complicated.
The important thing is to take action and celebrate your successes. One of the best ways I’ve found for getting started with setting goals for next year is by making a list (on paper) of what has been successful so far this year. Then brainstorm 3-5 goals you want to work towards over the next twelve months based on those successes from the previous twelve months.
